The Butterfly House
Freehold Boro, New Jersey

Welcome to our Blog. Share our adventures as we renovate this Victorian home that was built in 1872

We are Back
Hi
We have not updated the blog in a while and will start to update very shortly. So many things have happened I am not sure where to start.

The pace of renovations has slowed but there are always projects going on at the butterfly house
We recently finished the attic and how a great living space now. We are also converting to gas heat... stay tuned for photos and updates...

On a more serious note:
In August 2008 to January 2009 I was in Saudi Arabia on a consulting assignment thru my company EMC Consulting. I was working at NCB Capital doing a compliance workflow project. A six week engagement ended up being 5 months away from the USA.

All I can say is I love America and we really dont realize how much freedom we have here and the liberties we enjoy.

After my engagement ended in January 2009, my company EMC let me go as part of a company wide downsizing effort.
From January to June 2009 I was out of work and looking for a job.

During that time I started to sell Real Estate and as luck would have it I picked up a contract engagement position at JP MOrgan Chase in New York City. I am not sure how long this engagement will last but I thank God every day for watchiing out for me and the family.

Things are starting to get back to normal at the butterfly house as a steady paycheck is always a good thing, so stay tuned for further updates

The work on the master bath is moving along as you will be able to see from the pictues.  We ran into a bit of a snafu because the company that I ordered the sink fixtures from forgot to send them to me. . . . OOPS!!  But they arrived today and they are beautiful.  The shower head and the fixtures were put in several days ago. . .we have running water which you can see if you look very closely at the picture.

now look at the fixtures up close. . .

here's the old fashioned drain stopper. . .isn't it so sweet and it works like a charm. . .

now compare it to the hallway lights that have been in the house for "who knows how long", the finish is almost identical. . . . .

I think that they go together just beautifully. . . . . .

Painting Party

Well, we are finally getting our act together with painting the house.  We've been going over to the house every night once Bobby comes home and the family has been painting the walls.  So far we've finished the kitchen, and Daniel's room has 2 walls done.  The kitchen is painted in the most delicious color you've ever seen (can colors be delicious???).  It looks like chocolate candy (keep your minds out of the gutter, folks, this is a "G" rated blog!!!)

So, if any of you feel so inclined,  come out and help. . . the doors always open!  We'll even throw a slice of pizza in on the deal.  Hey, if enough of you come out, we'll start giving away door prizes!!  We are currently priming the dining room.  You remember that one. . . it is the hot pink/fuschia room!

Just FYI, we've been getting tons of hits on a regular basis.  It seems that alot of people want to know what's going on at The Butterfly House.  Several people have even subscribed to the blog. . .everytime I post, they get a message to see the new entry.  How cool is that??  What Bobby and I would really like is for you to leave comments, like the one Chris, the OTHER great tile guy, left.  It's fun for you to read what we post and it's fun for us to see what you think.

How pretty is this????  It's actually starting to look like a kitchen where you would want sit down, read 1Samuel (the book of the bible I'm currently reading), and have a large cup of tea!

We're using Benjamin Moore paint, which is going on the walls quite nicely.  Bobby put up NuWal, which made the old bumpy plaster look like a new wall (get it??).  With the paint on them they look like suede. . .it's quite stunning.  The soffet, the section over the cabinets, was painted in a contrasting color called Warm Apple Crisp.  Because the kitchen is so big, I didn't want the same color all over the walls, I thought it would get boring really fast! (remember the "3B" rule!!)  We are going to leave the cabinets white to match the trim around the bay window and the window over the sink.  We painted the wainscoating in Montgomery White, which has a beautiful glow to it.  I'll post a picture of it tomorrow, but if you have to see it now, go back and look at the hallway picture. . .it's the color of the molding on the new doors.

Well, that all for now. . . stay tuned for future posts!  Tomorrow I'll also put up a picture of the new hallway sconce we got from REJUVENATION . . . it's  gorgeous.

OK. . .for all you English majors out there.. . .circle all of the adjectives in this post!!
